Ponders End Wargaming Club

Volume 2, Issue 3 - March 2002

Editorial

Well, as you may have noticed, the newsletter has a much shorter name now, (it stands for Ponders End Wargames Club for those of you who are hard of thinking.) Basically this is the new name of the club.
To go with the new name we also have a new home on the net, the new URL is www.pewc.co.uk so please update your browsers or else you won't be able to gaze at the wondrous visages on the members page ;) .

The club's 40k/Fantasy split is taking a back seat for the next few months, so for March, each week will be a bring & battle night, feel free to challenge people to a game of whatever you like. Then in April we will be running a month long 40k campaign (details below).

One final note, thanks to everyone who turned out for the PBI 2 campaign day, it was a lot of fun and hopefully we'll be doing it again sometime in the next 6 months. Keep your eyes on the website for a write-up of the day, including all the final results, and a whole host of pictures of the games.

Capital Combat

One quick reminder, on Saturday March 30th GW are holding the Capital Combat mini-Grand tournament at the Royal Horticultural Society Halls in London. GW Retail, Black Library and Forgeworld will all be in attendance. The club is looking to put a team together to go down and attend, you'll need a fully rostered & painted army, (1500pts of 40,000 and/or 2000pts of Fantasy). If you are going and are a club member, you might be interested in knowing that if you bring your ticket to the club any time before the day, the club will subsidise you £5. Basically we'll give you a fiver back off of the ticket price.

Warhammer Fantasy

Well, the swift and slightly whimpering demise of interest in the Fantasy campaign we've decided to give it a break for a little while, so for the next month feel free to challenge anybody you want to any size game (within reason obviously). We're hoping to do another campaign in about 3 months time. More news when we get it.

Warhammer 40,000

As with Fantasy, for the next month 40k is a sort-out-your-own-games deal. However, in April we will be running a month long campaign "The Battle for Centaro Prime". Steve will be running it, so if you are interested please see him and sign up for it.

Blood Bowl

In April, Rob will be running another Blood Bowl league or cup competition. So if you aren't interested in the 40k campaign, this is running as well. There will be a sign-up sheet on the notice board so please put your name down if you are interested.

Upcoming Events

  1. Call of Cthulu or Deadlands: at the end of this month George will be running a one-off adventure for one of these two games, if you are interested please let us know which is your preference.

  2. The Call of Cthulu scenario is taken from an old issue of The Unspeakable Oath, and can be played by up to six players. In a twist on the usual COC scenario, the players are members of a cult. When the head of the cult is found brutally murdered, the intrigue flies and threatens to expose each person's hidden past and machiavellian ambitions.

  3. Deadlands: is a combination of the Sergio Leone, (The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, Once upon a time in the west), westerns with a smattering of splatterpunk horror ( Zombies, monsters etc). Players assume of the role of Gunslingers, bounty hunters mad scientist, hellfire preachers, Indian Braves etc, in the fight against the forces of darkness.
