Ponders End Wargaming Club

Volume 2, Issue 2 - February 2002

Editorial

No, your eyes are not deceiving you…this is indeed the February Newsletter. Once more here to provide you with information and insight into the goings on in the club for the coming month or so.

First off, as no one challenged for a committee place so the committee remains the same as in last month's newsletter.

Also, club memberships are now done, so if you are not a member please remember that it will cost you £3 for an evening.

The PBI 2 campaign day is just under a month away now, so don't forget that if you are interested in this very easy to pick up game, that games are running weekly & you are more than welcome to come down on Saturday March 2nd and watch, Peter Pig will be there with a trade stand as well, so you can always pick up an army while you are there, it is relatively inexpensive to buy a pre-built army, (£30-£60 on average), that you can always add to later.

Capital Combat

On Saturday March 30th GW are holding the Capital Combat mini-Grand tournament at the Royal Horticultural Society Halls in London. GW Retail, Black Library and Forgeworld will all be in attendance. The club is looking to put a team together to go down and attend, you'll need a fully rostered & painted army, (1500pts of 40,000 and/or 2000pts of Fantasy). If enough people are interested, a mini-bus will be hired to get everyone there & back again, the cost of the mini-bus would be split between all the attendees and would leave from GW Enfield. If you're interested please see Steve.

Warhammer Fantasy

The Fantasy league has kicked off, with the first games being played this past Tuesday. Not much to report so far other than that taking an early lead is Kev after completely crushing Steve's army horribly. Check out next month's newsletter when, hopefully, there will be a complete rundown of all the current league positions.

Warhammer 40,000

The 40,000 league began a couple of weeks ago. As with the Fantasy, there isn't too much to tell yet. However taking an early lead is Des and his Tau. Again, hopefully next month's newsletter will contain a complete rundown of the current league positions.

Upcoming Events

  1. Godlike: This Role-playing game will run for 1 evening and is very easy to get into. The setting is WW2, but a new breed of superhuman "Talents" has been emerging over the past few years. Players will play a pre-generated Talent in a desperate mission to neutralise a new German "Ubermensch" whose powers could turn the Battle of the Bulge into a massacre.
If you wish to play Godlike, all you will need are a pencil and a handful often-sided dice. Everything else will be provided. If you are interested in playing please ask and any further information you need will be given to you.

  2. English Civil War: With the new Warhammer Historical rules now out we're looking at doing something in the near future. A set of the rules is usually floating around the hall during an evening so if you are interested, or just curious, ask Shaun and he'll let you look through a copy.

  3. Warmaster: OK so technically this is an on-going thing, but I've had a long 2 weeks & so it goes here, all right? Basically this is a call to anybody that has a Warmaster army. If you aren't playing in the main game of the evening, why not bring it with you, there is usually someone around who'll be more than glad to play you. Also, if you've never played before, maybe now is the time to start watching a game or two, also most of the players have a couple of armies & are happy to lend them out for the evening if you want to learn.
