Warhammer Ancients

Released in 1998, Warhammer Ancients Battles, or WAB as its also known has grown in popularity since its release. Supported by an active Yahoo Group and by a series of supplements covering specific historical periods, the WAB rules provide a fun fast paced game, which manages to simulate history, and more importantly gives a good game.

Developed from Warhammer Fantasy Battle 5th edition, the WAB rules do contain a number of slight rule differences to better represent history. To date 9 supplements containing a mix of background information, army lists, splendid colour sections as well as painting and modelling guides have been released, with several others in development. At present there are army lists for all the major factions of the Ancient and Medieval world each with a unique flavour, the Norman’s have powerful knights, the Romans; stubborn and highly manoeuvrable infantry, the Greeks form up in a hard hitting phalanx formation while the Mongols and Huns swarm over the table and dominate with missile power.

Miniatures are available from many manufacturers specialising in the production of historical figures. Several manufacturers, such as Gripping Beast and Newline Designs supply ready-made armies.
